Our academic tutors are friendly, knowledgeable, highly qualified, and here to help you succeed in your studies.

Academic tutoring at UEL

We can help you with essay writing, presentations, data handling, numeracy, statistics, and much, much more.

We offer free workshops, drop-in sessions and one to one appointments at the Docklands, Stratford and University Square campuses.

Our academic tutors can help you to develop the skills you need to study at university level. We can show you tools and strategies to become a more successful and independent learner. Book into a workshop to see how we can help you to improve your range of study skills.

Academic writing and English support

Our English tutors can help you to develop your academic writing, language and research skills. We encourage independent thinking and show you ways to build upon your existing knowledge and techniques. Book into a workshop to see how we can help you to improve your skills.

We can help you to:

  • Understand the differences between academic writing and other types of writing
  • Improve your grammar and punctuation
  • Read effectively, especially in terms of analysing sources
  • Plan and structure your assignments
  • Prepare and deliver effective presentations
  • Understand referencing conventions

 

Maths and Statistics support

Our maths tutors can help you develop your skills in mathematics, statistics and numeracy. We encourage independent thinking by showing you ways to build upon your existing knowledge and techniques.

Try our online resources (on the Intranet) or book into a workshop to see how we can help you to improve your maths and statistics skills.

We can help you to:

  • Revise and understand the maths required by your course
  • Make sense of graphs and data
  • Use statistics to handle your own data
  • Carry out tasks which require calculations
  • Prepare for external exams, employer assessments and the QTS numeracy test.

Royal Literary Fund Fellows

UEL is fortunate to have two RLF Fellows, professional writers who are available to help students improve any aspect of their academic writing, including planning, structure, style, referencing, critical thinking, grammar and punctuation.

Our Fellows, Ian Ayris and Luiza Sauma, offer confidential one-to-one appointments at the Docklands and Stratford campuses, and online. Students can see the Fellows more than once, if necessary. There are also extensive resources for students on the RLF website.

Ian Ayris

Ian is the author of three novels, a novella and over 40 short stories. He is seeing students at the Docklands campus on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during term time. To book an appointment please email ian.ayris@rlfeducation.org.uk
