This page provides direct links to reliable national and international websites and databases enabling refugees and asylum seekers, social and mental health care professionals, organisations and agencies working with them in the UK and internationally to easily access an abundance of translated mental as well as general health resources and information in a variety of languages.

The national and international websites below have been researched and put together by Dr Farkhondeh Farsimadan, a Chartered Counselling Psychologist, who is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society and an HCPC registered Psychologist.

Beyond Blue is an Australian independent, not-for-profit organisation that works with individuals, families and communities affected by depression, anxiety and suicide, promoting good mental health across a range of population groups, ages and ethnicities. Beyond Blue's website provides a wide range of mental health resources in English and a number of languages to help individuals and their families and professionals support people from multicultural communities.

Embrace Multicultural Mental Health

Embrace Multicultural Mental Health is run by Mental Health Australia with funding from Australian Government Department of Health.  Mental Health Australia provides translated fact sheets on a number of mental health conditions in a range of languages for those from culturally diverse backgrounds.

EthnoMed

EthnoMed is Harborview Medical Centre's ethnic medicine website containing medical and cultural information about immigrant and refugee groups. EthnoMed is a joint program of the University of Washington Health Sciences Libraries and Harborview Medical Centre's Interpreter Services Department/Community House Calls Program (ISD/CHC). Information provided is specific to groups in the Seattle area, USA, but much of the cultural and health information may be of interest to individuals and professionals in other geographic areas. EthnoMed provides a collection of resources and information (with some translated information) related to cross-cultural and refugee health topics including refugee mental health, select populations' cultural perspectives regarding mental illness, and teaching videos about providing culturally competent care and managing stigma.

Health Information Translations

Health Information Translations provides education resources in multiple languages for health care professionals and others to use in their communities. Resources are easy to read and culturally appropriate.  The website is a collaboration of health education specialists from the four health systems in Central Ohio, the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Centre, Mount Carmel Health System, OhioHealth, Nationwide Children's Hospital.

Health Translations is an initiative of the Victorian Government of Australia which is managed by the Centre for Culture, Ethnicity and Health. The Health Translations Directory is an online library which enables health practitioners and those working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities to easily access free translated health information in over 100 languages. Here to Help

Here to Help is a project of the British Columbia Partners for Mental Health and Substance Use Information in Canada. The project is made of a group of seven leading mental health and substance non-profit agencies working together to help people live well and better prevent and manage mental health and substance use problems. Here to Help provides information/fact sheets in English and a number of languages that were developed and tested through a community process to make sure the translations are accurate as well as sensitive.

Kelty Mental Health Resource Centre

The BC Children's Kelty Mental Health Resource Centre provides mental health and substance use information, resources, and peer support to children, youth and their families from across BC, Canada. Children, youth and families from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds may experience additional challenges accessing mental health information and services, as a result, the centre provides cross-cultural translated resources and tools that community and health professionals can use to strengthen their ability to support the mental health of diverse families in British Columbia.

Multicultural Mental Health Resource Centre, MMHRC, Canada was developed from grants from the Mental Health Commission of Canada and the Canadian Institute of Health Research.  This website provides resources for lay people, people with mental health problems and their families, community organisations and healthcare professionals.

Off The Record (OTR) Croydon Refugee Service

OTR Croydon Refugee Service provides confidential counselling support to refugees, asylum seekers and forced migrants aged between 11-25 residing in Croydon. They work with a wide range of issues, including trauma, loss, self-harm, suicide, anxiety, isolation and sleep problems. In addition, there are audio and video resources including breathing and relaxation exercises, how to cope with anxiety, ideas for good sleep etc., in a number of languages, prompting good mental health and wellbeing among youth refugees.

Refugee Action's Asylum Guides

Asylum Guides is a programme developed by Refugee Action that aims to support organisations working with asylum seekers and asylum seekers themselves in their asylum journey. The resources are available in a number of languages in video and information sheet format and for women, children and young people who have made a claim for asylum in the UK to understand the asylum process and their rights.

Save the Children's Resource Centre

Save the Children's Resource Centre is an online library that hosts comprehensive, reliable and up-to-date information on Save the Children's thematic areas: child protection, child rights governance, health & nutrition, education and child poverty. The website is open to the public and provides access to over 7,000 materials all in one place and a number of languages including English, Arabic, French, Italian, Spanish, etc.

Sussex Interpreting Services

Sussex Interpreting Services, SIS, offers a range of support services including community interpreting and translation, bilingual advocacy which are free to all refugees and asylum seekers. SIS helps people with language needs have access to publicly funded services, for instance, provision of dual language appointment letters to help services inform clients with a language need of their appointment details.

Transcultural Mental Health Centre

The Transcultural Mental Health Centre, TMHC is an NSW Health state-wide service hosted within the Western Sydney Local Health District. The Migrant Information Hub

The Migrant Information Hub was created by Migration Yorkshire in March 2020. The Hub is managed and part-funded by Migration Yorkshire and part by the European Union Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF).  It aims to offer resources and information in a number of languages to service providers in order to support people from culturally diverse backgrounds in Yorkshire and Humber to stay safe, connected and informed during Coronavirus pandemic.  The translated materials can be accessed via the links below.

UN News portal: The United Nations Department of Global Communications has launched a new one-stop, multimedia news portal.  UN News portal enables the user to easily navigate the work of the United Nations on matters including peace, development, human rights, refugees, etc., via audio, video, graphics or text resources.
