Becoming a Fitness Instructor, also known as a Gym Instructor, is a starting point for your career in fitness.

Level 2 Gym Instructor (RQF)

In partnership with cAmpus our Gym Instructor course will provide you with the skills and knowledge to conduct consultations, plan and prepare gym-based exercise programmes for apparently healthy adults, and to communicate with and motivate clients effectively.

Once enrolled, you’ll have access to:

  • all online course material
  • course videos
  • exercise library
  • online worksheets
  • workbooks.

The content of our Level 2 Fitness Instructor course includes:

  • anatomy and physiology
  • diseases and common health conditions
  • analysis of client information
  • functional programme design
  • movement screening
  • effective coaching models
  • health risk stratification
  • communication and interpersonal skills
  • health and safety
  • planning and instructing gym-based exercise
  • nutrition for health
  • motivational interviewing
  • conducting consultations.

Study Options

Home study plus a practical, tutor-led Gym Instructor In-Person Clinic that you attend at SportsDock. (see map)

You will:

  • book onto a scheduled gym instructor in-person clinic
  • complete as home study the online course material, online theory assessment, and specified sections of the portfolio.
  • attend the Gym Instructor In-Person Clinic you will have booked onto. You’ll perform various training and assessments during this five-day clinic and finish and hand in a copy of your completed portfolio.

Dates and Times

The next course will include four days of tutor led learning, running from 9am-5pm on the following weekends:

  • Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 April 2023
  • Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 April 2023

The practical examination date will be Saturday 29 April 2023.

Course Duration

You will have 6 months from the date of enrolment to complete the course, however, most of our learners are able to complete the course within 8-12 weeks.

Recognition

You will achieve the relevant Focus Awards Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification upon successful completion of our Fitness Instructor course, the certificate for which will be issued by the awarding organisation. This course is also recognised by CIMSPA.

This course is a prerequisite for the Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training and Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral qualifications and allows students to join CIMSPA as a Level 2 practitioner.

Prerequisites

No prior fitness qualification is required before starting our Gym Instructor course.

A basic level of English and Maths will be necessary to understand the course content.

The Gym Instructor course requires physical exertion; therefore, a degree of physical fitness is necessary. Prior participation in gym sessions will be helpful.
