Film and animation students from the University of East London (UEL) will see their work showcased on the big screen when they take over Stratford Picturehouse this week.

The glitzy showcase is to celebrate the end of the final year for the School of Arts and Creative Industries cohort and to offer them a glimpse of the many possibilities waiting for them when they graduate.

Speaking about the event, senior lecturer in film Dr Lindsay Hallam at the University, said, "We are so excited that the final year students on the BA Film and BA Animation degrees will be presenting their dissertation films on the big screen at Stratford Picturehouse.

"The screening will showcase films made across a variety of different forms, from dramas and comedies to documentaries and experimental work, demonstrating the wide variety of talents and ambitions that our students will be taking into the industry."

The end of year showcase takes place on Wednesday, 1 June, at Stratford Picturehouse between 5pm and 8.30pm. The event will open with a celebratory drinks reception and networking opportunity followed by the screenings which will run from 6pm to 8.30pm. The event is free to attend and open to all.

The Film Programme

Film buffs will be in for a fest with a line-up that includes examples from many genres, including animation, drama and comedy.

Johannes Maier, senior lecturer in film at the University, has been responsible for putting the event together.  He said, "The films of this year's graduates are a unique and eclectic collection of comedy dramas, semi-fictional documentaries, and a film on noses. Many of these films are increasingly important, given the turbulent times the world finds itself in."
