Exchange Programme
Our Exchange Programme allows you to spend part of your degree abroad studying at one of UEL's specially selected partner institutions across the globe, both within and beyond Europe.
You can spend a semester or a year at one of our many partner institutions. The process to apply for destinations takes place centrally with the Global Experiences Office and takes place the year prior to your exchange.
You can find full details of the exchange programme on the intranet. Please note you will need to be logged into your UEL account
Traineeships Abroad
Why not stand out from the crowd and participate in an internship opportunity abroad? The Global Experiences team at UEL are here to support you every step of the way and can provide assistance with funding your traineeship abroad through the use of the Turing Scheme Funding.
Students who wish to participate in a traineeship abroad are encouraged to seek their own opportunities. Our CareerZone has useful resources for doing so such as the Going Global Platform, an online data base that helps new and experienced job seekers find opportunities both at home and abroad.
In order to receive funding from the Turing Scheme, placements must be a length of 4 weeks minimum. If you have found your perfect placement and would like to apply for funding, you can apply here.
Summer Programmes
UEL recognises that for some of our students, participating in a yearlong or term exchange is not possible due to personal commitments. We want our students to be able to have access to all our opportunities and believe all deserve to experience international exposure while studying at UEL.
Throughout the summer period, UEL aim to offer short-term placements, usually 4-6 weeks long, to provide shorter, more affordable participation in international projects. These projects will range in their nature, with some being open to students from all subject areas, others more specific. You can find information on upcoming placements on the Short-term placements intranet page. The page is updated as and when opportunities become available, so watch this space!
You can also join a summer school in the summer period to gain a global perspective. These can be with our partner institutions or self-sought. Students participating in summer schools of a duration longer than 4 weeks are able to access the Turing Scheme funding to assist with the costs.
Funding Global Opportunities
So, you want to go abroad on one of programmes, but aren't sure how to fund it? Look no further, as funding is available to you! Please refer to the Global Experiences intranet page for more details on available funding.
Personal Funding
Studying abroad is a huge adventure and provides you with a plethora of skills but its important to consider how you will fund your opportunity abroad. We recommend that you plan your mobility in advance, considering many implications, including financial ones.
You'll need to consider your budget for studying abroad, as well as any additional fees along the way, such as financial requirements and visas.
If you are going abroad for a term, you are responsible for paying full tuition fees to UEL for the year during which you are abroad.
If you are spending the full academic year abroad, you pay a reduced tuition fee to UEL.
Your host institution will not charge you a tuition fee as this has been waivered as part of our exchange agreement, however it is important to check for any additional fees such as: fees for registration, examinations, insurance, facilities etc.
You can contact the global experiences team at educationabroad@uel.ac.uk for further information and schedule a meeting with the Global Experiences Manager to discuss budgeting your studies abroad.
