Taekwondo
The UEL taekwondo club revolves around respect, friendship and self-development. Our athletes aim to transcend their levels and achieve highly in all aspects of taekwondo. The Korean martial art of taekwondo is a relatively modern one, formed by amalgamating the most effective aspects of several other Korean, Japanese and Chinese systems. Today it is one of the most popular martial arts in the world, and one that we are very proud to have here at UEL.
Here at UEL, we focus on both the sport and art aspects of the game, so whether you want to win medals in sparring competitions, develop your flexibility and technique, or learn how to defend yourself, there's something here for everyone. The majority of new members have no prior experience in martial arts, so you definitely don't need to be a black belt to join us!
At the 2018 UELSports Awards the taekwondo club picked up Club of the Year! This shows what a fantastic club we are to join.
Although technically an individual sport when it comes to competition, the club fosters a strong sense of team spirit and respect amongst our members. It's a great way to meet new people from all walks of life, and you're sure to develop some great friendships on your way to black belt status, as well as some other invaluable and, at times, unexpected, skills to help you through life.
Our Taekwondo coaches are bursting with experience, having been previous uel students, understanding the commitment needed to juggle both sport and academics.
Training takes place every Monday and Wednesday from 7.00pm – 9.00pm at SportsDock.
The UEL Taekwondo Club train at SportsDock, a world-class facility on the Docklands Campus at the University of East London.
