Cheerleading
The UEL Cheerleading Club has grown dramatically over the past three years. The team has competed nationally placing 4th in both 2015 and 2016 at the ICC University National Championships completing their 2016 competition with a perfect zero-point deduction routine, something that is exceptionally rare in the competitive cheerleading world. More recently, in 2019, the team were crowned Future Cheer Regional Champions. The club was also awarded the prestigious ‘Club of The Year’ award at the 2016 annual UELSports Awards following their award of ‘Most Improved Club’ in 2015.
You don’t need past cheerleading experience to join our club; you simply need passion to learn, enthusiasm to train and be there to support your team, and a desire to succeed. The club is open to female and male competitors, and it’s a great way to improve your fitness, coordination and flexibility.
The club trains at Talent Central, one of Europe’s top cheerleading gyms, located at Gallions Reach Shopping Park (next to New Look), a short distance from UEL's Docklands campus. Talent Central has a full nine-panel sprung floor and an Air Tumble Track, plus a five-panel matted training area. Both spaces have mirrored walls and space to cheer, dance, jump, stunt and tumble; the essential ingredients for any cheerleading squad. The team is also coached by world renowned cheerleading coach Gareth Green.
Cheer training takes place every Wednesday from 1.00-3.00pm.
The benefits of cheerleading are much more than learning how to stunt, jump and tumble. Cheerleading teaches the importance of teamwork and encouraging your team and others to achieve their potential.
Cheerleading promotes fitness and good health choices whilst setting the tone for a healthy lifestyle. It teaches bonding and trust among team members in order to hold and catch each other in routine.
The UEL Cheerleading Club has a great social atmosphere with the opportunity to build friendships. The club arranges highly successful socials nights alone and in conjunction with other clubs, most notably their annual Super Bowl social night which, along with the American football team regularly sees a large turn out of students from UEL and University of Greenwich’s American football and cheerleading teams.

The cheerleading club is such a welcoming environment for people of all paths of life. The club has helped improve my physical and mental health and I've loved every second of it."
