UEL Basketball has gone from strength to strength. Having become one of UEL's focus sports with more and more players are choosing their education and basketball with us.
In 2017-18, there were three title winning teams including Women’s 1st, Men’s 2nd and Men’s 3rd. In the 2018-19 season, Men's 1st team were crowned BUCS South Premier Champions and BUCS Championship runners up; making them the second best team in the country. Our men’s and women’s 1st teams play in the highest possible BUCS league which makes UEL the place to be for basketball. The men’s programme now boasts four teams and two women’s teams for players to be involved in.
The men's basketball programme, in partnership with current BBL Champions - London Lions, is overseen by Head Coach Dave Greenaway. Dave is a top level basketball coach with years of experience behind him. He previously worked as Head Coach of the Nottingham Wildcats WBBL side before moving south to become assistant Head Coach of the London Lions, Head Coach of the East London All Stars and at UEL.
Tope Alli-Balogun heads up the Women's Basketball programme, also with a number of years experience behind him. Tope is an assistant coach at the BA London Lions who play in the WBBL and for the recently formed Basketball England Aspire Programme for the London region. Alongside this, he also assists with the Hoopsfix All Star Classic weekend.
UEL boasts some of the best indoor facilities in London. Players will have access to two arenas and four full international standard courts as well as a show court. The facility was the home for the USA Basketball national men’s and women’s teams for the London 2012 Olympics.
Players will have access to first class strength and conditioning provision with a purpose built facility as well as the world-class UEL SportsDock fitness centre.
Men's Training takes place on a Tuesday from 8:00-10:00pm and Women's Training takes place Tuesday from 5:00-7:00pm.
As a member of the UEL Basketball Club players get the opportunity to train and play in one of four men’s and two women’s teams. Teams currently compete in BUCS league with the women’s 2nd team competing in LUSL.
As a basketball scholar players will be able to access daily one-to-one training sessions, strength and conditioning, medical and physiotherapy support, as well as workshops.

Representing the UEL basketball team has been the best experience I have ever had. The facilities, coaching and support is of an elite level and gives me the tools I need to progress as an athlete."
