OLIVE
The University of East London is offering a 12-week course for refugees and asylum seekers in the UK. The aim of the course is to introduce refugees and asylum seekers to Higher Education.
It offers an opportunity for students to find out what skills and knowledge are needed in order to apply for and succeed in Higher Education in the UK and provides information about pathways and opportunities.
We offer two programmes:
- OLIve Online (Thursday and Friday, 2-4 hours a day)
- OLIve Weekend (Saturdays, 9am-5pm, UEL USS Campus, Stratford)
A certificate of attendance is available for all who attend the offered workshops.
Please note that this is not an accredited programme and does not give students automatic access to other UEL courses.
Classes
The classes across Online and Weekend are:
- Academic English, English for IELTS
- Education and Employability Pathways, A-Z on How to Apply for University
- Academic Tutoring, Public Speaking
- IT Access, IT Microsoft Certification
- Creative Writing and Storytelling, Podcasting

OLIve UP University Certificate
UEL also offers funded places for University Certificate (Level 3) in Social Sciences and Early Years and Education studies. This is a full-time course and taught together with the Foundation programmes.
Applications are open June - August for people who are asylum seekers, refugees or who have other humanitarian protection statuses. You will need to have right to study and UKVI check, as well as an English certification equivalent to IELTS 5. 5.
