Digital Fabrication Lab (DFUEL)

Hero Carousel

Digital Fabrication Lab

The 3D Scanner (Artec Eva) enables students to digitalise their work or existing shapes for further digital manipulation.

What We Do

The digital fabrication lab is situated in the Knowledge Dock Building in the rooms KD G.15, G.17 and G.19. It is currently supervised by Barbara Zandavali and Paul Nichols. It is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 5pm with a one-hour break between 1pm and 2pm. Students from every course in UEL are welcome to use the workshops.

3D Printing facilities include FDM, SLA, Clay and Composite Materials printers. These processes are suitable for standard model making printers, reinforced engineering parts, high definition prints, castable prints, as well as full-scale prints (up to 1m height).

The 3D Scanner (Artec Eva) enables students to digitalise their work or existing shapes for further digital manipulation. Forming methods include a small-scale Vacuum Forming and a large-scale vacuum bag system. Our milling machine is ideal for final prototyping in a large variety of materials (wood, acrylic, glass, foam).

Our ABB IRB 6620 Robotic Arm is able to scale up manufacturing into real scale with a 2m robot range and 150kg payload. There are currently available pick and place, hot-wire cutting, milling, weaving, extrusion and drawing end-effectors.

Location

KD G 15, 17, 19.
