UEL hosts Global Vortex Conference

The Royal Docks of Business and Law at UEL will be hosting a three-day international symposium entitled "The Balkans and the Greater Middle East in the Global Vortex" which will also mark and celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Journal of Balkan and Near Eastern Studies which is published by Routledge/Taylor & Francis.
The conference will take place at the University Square Stratford campus from 15-17 March 2023 with keynote discussions and lectures looking at: “The Ukraine crisis and the former Ottoman and Soviet space”, "Italy, the EU and the Western Balkans: The Adriatic-Ionian project” and "The New Cold War. The USA, Russia and China”.
Discussions will be looking at “Legacies of the Arab Spring”, a "Spotlight on Turkey” and “What ECRs and PhD students need to know about journals and how to get published”. The third day of the event will be dedicated to an exclusive discussion on "War and Peace in the Balkans and the Greater Middle East" involving current and former Ambassadors and diplomats, as well as businesspersons, policy-makers and other experts.
Professor Vassilis Fouskas (Economics, UEL), the founding editor of the journal and chair of the conference said: "We are delighted to be hosting a number of high profile speakers from across the globe to join us for this important conference which will look at recent events in Ukraine and the impact on the Balkans and the Greater Middle East as well as examine the Adriatic-Ionian project and what developments have taken place."
