OVERVIEW
Maya Tayara is a designer and academic specialising in Strategic and Visual Design, currently holding the position of Senior Lecturer. Her expertise spans various areas including branding, Latin and Arabic typography, design management, and design thinking. She obtained her degree in Design Strategy and Innovation from Brunel University London in 2014 and pursued a PGCert in Creative Education from the University for the Creative Arts in 2023.
Maya has accumulated over 18 years of practical experience, working both in-house and for design studios, and over 12 years in academia. Her work has been showcased in publications like the USA Graphis Series and has earned her awards such as the Midas Awards for best financial branding in the MENA region.
Within the Visual Arts cluster, Maya actively collaborates with students across disciplines, sharing her expertise in visual and strategic skills. Her teaching approach is centered around developing well-rounded graduates who excel in a competitive market. Maya places a strong emphasis on employability, ensuring that students are well-prepared to navigate evolving industries such as AI using design thinking methods.
Maya's research interests include Academic Innovation, with a current focus on exploring the value of design in creating inclusive and decolonized design curriculums in the UK.
