Challenge Cup
We did it! Congratulations #teamUEL on your amazing success yesterday.
An absolutely fantastic turn out for UELSports in the Challenge Cup, beating Anglia Ruskin University 14-5 and bringing home the victory trophy! And, over 400 people came out to cheer the teams on!
As the old saying goes: "third time lucky" - and this definitely proved to be true yesterday, when UEL showed ARU what they're really about.
Events took place in a few locations around East London, including SportsDock – basketball, volleyball, rowing, badminton, table tennis, futsal, taekwondo, netball. As well as, West Ham Rugby Club – American Football, West Ham Park - cricket, Lee Valley – hockey and tennis, and finishing the day off at Hackney Marshes with football, a BBQ, and the final awards ceremony. Our Challenge Cup captains proudly took to the front and enjoyed a build up from the crowd, before lifting the Challenge Cup trophy, with the UEL ribbons attached.
For many of our final year students, who were here for the very first Challenge Cup, this was their very last chance to prove themselves, and they did not disappoint! We couldn't have asked for better weather and a friendlier, more supportive atmosphere. With the sun shining, and men's football finishing the day with a win of 5-0, this really was a perfect end to such a successful day.
We'd like to thank all the teams and students who took part, everyone who came to show their support, and all the staff that helped to make this event happen and so successful.
Bring on next year when we go for the equaliser!
