About our clubs
Keeping fit and healthy are just some of the benefits of joining a sports clubs. It’s the perfect environment to create new friendships, enhance your CV, represent the University of East London, but most importantly have fun!
We have 16 sports clubs both competitive and non-competitive that are open to everyone.
The majority of our clubs compete in the weekly league and cup matches, as well as individual championships run by British University and College Sports (BUCS), the governing body for higher education sports clubs in the UK.
If you would like to know any more about any of our sports clubs please visit their webpage and send them an email. All clubs are free to join this coming semester, students will need to register for sessions in advance. Current students can find out more on our Intranet pages.

American Football
The American Football Club is one of the fastest-growing clubs at the University with some of the most enthusiastic and passionate club members around
Athletics
The Athletics Club is one of our most successful clubs, finishing in the top 10 universities in the country in 2013 and 2014.
Badminton
Our Badminton Club is open to players who are passionate about badminton and those looking to improve their health.
Basketball
Our men's and women’s basketball programme includes regular training and the opportunity to train and play in one of four men’s and two women’s teams.
Challenge Cup
Congratulations #teamUEL. An absolutely fantastic result for UELSports in the Challenge Cup, beating Anglia Ruskin University 14-5.
Cheerleading
Join our Cheerleading club, for all levels - all you need is passion to learn, enthusiasm to train, support for your team and a desire to succeed.
Cricket
UEL Cricket Club welcomes male and female players of all abilities. Our environment ensures you develop as a player regardless of your level.
Football
UEL's football club is one of our largest, with 3 men's teams and 2 women's teams. The club consists of players and staff passionate about football.
Futsal
Futsal is a 5-a-side game, played indoors with a ball similar to a football, only smaller and heavier. Join us for this exciting, fast-paced game.
Hockey
Join the UEL hockey club. We welcome complete beginners wanting to learn, or those wanting to pick up from where they left off after school.
Netball
Our UEL netball club offers players the opportunity to play competitive netball against other university teams in the region.
Rowing
The UEL Boat Club (UELBC) is constantly growing. We recruit new members for all levels (beginner, novice, or experienced rower) each academic year.
Rugby
UEL men’s rugby club is a competitive, sociable team that train and compete weekly in the BUCS league.
Taekwondo
The UEL taekwondo club revolves around respect, friendship and self-development, aiming to achieve highly in all levels and aspects of taekwondo.
Tennis
UEL tennis offers a full range of tennis for everyone - from performance players to sessions for children, young people and recreational players.
Trampolining
UEL's Trampoline Club is the perfect club to learn something new and apply skills you've learnt previously.
Volleyball
The UEL volleyball club consists of 2 men’s and 2 women’s teams who train and compete weekly in BUCS leagues. We accept every level and ability.
Wheelchair basketball
The wheelchair basketball club is for all abilities. If you want to make friends, learn a new skill or compete at a high level, this club is for you.
