Can I get a meal plan whilst in quarantine?
Yes, you will be emailed a meal order form with options for breakfasts, lunches and dinners (all meals will be Halal and vegetarian options will also be available). Meals will then be delivered to your door throughout your self-isolation period.
If I choose to not get a meal plan, where can I buy groceries?
All the big-name UK supermarkets provide an online shopping experience and will arrange home delivery, though these can sometimes be challenging to acquire. Other options are available but the most popular online grocery delivery shopping sites are as follows:
It is safe to have supermarkets orders delivered because supermarkets must follow the government's safety guidance. Staff packing your food and other items should regularly wash their hands and maintain good hygiene practices in food preparation and handling areas.
You should minimise the chance of coronavirus spreading by maintaining 1-2 metre distance when your order is brought to you or simply collect from your door once the items have been dropped off.
Do you have other food delivery services available?
Yes! London is home to lots of amazing restaurants, many of which can be accessed via food delivery apps such as: Uber Eats, Deliveroo, Just Eat and other independent restaurants that offer their own delivery service. These providers are prepared to deliver in a safe and contactless way, should you want to eat something outside of the meal plan or are out of groceries.
Are there any social virtual activities that I can take part in?
We understand that isolating upon arrival to a new country is daunting, but our Residential Life Team are working hard to plan virtual events during this time, to keep you engaged and socialised. This schedule will be updated regularly on our intranet pages which will be shared to your personal email address prior to your arrival.
Will I be able to do laundry?
Our laundry facilities are shared and outside of your immediate accommodation. Therefore, during your self-isolation period you will not be able to access the facilities. We recommend you bring enough clothing and additional towels to last for 10 days.
Do I need to have registered with a doctor in the UK to receive treatment if I feel sick whilst in quarantine?
As part of your visa application you would have paid for the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) to give you access to certain NHS medical care in the UK. Your Tier 4 visa itself will act as proof that you are entitled to NHS medical care. You can find more information about health care in the UK here.
You should not register at a doctor's surgery in person during your period of quarantine. If you feel sick during this period please contact the NHS helpline on 111.
Once your period of quarantine is over, you can register with a doctor in the UK and you can find out more under the 'Life in the UK' section of our International Orientation page.
