Update on National Mourning and state funeral
15 September 2022
Working with Universities UK and the London Higher with all London based higher educational institutions, we would like to reassure staff and students that all University business will continue as planned. This includes celebrations at our graduation ceremonies for 2022 alumni this week, welcoming new students into their accommodation and sending out important updates to help our students at the beginning of their new term.
On-campus facilities such as our libraries and food outlets will be open as planned, and staff will be onsite as usual.
During this week, please be aware of major travel disruption, which is likely to increase day by day. Depending on the size of visiting crowds to the capital, police will extend roadblocks for the safety of the public. Please plan your journeys in advance and consider alternative means of being able to work.
Bank Holiday – Monday 19 September 2022
The University of East London will be closed on the day of the state funeral, which has been formally announced as a bank holiday. On this day, we will operate similarly to other bank holidays with essential staff on site. The libraries will be open 24/7, as scheduled, while other amenities will open on shorter hours (see below). As with other bank holidays, USS will be closed on this day.
The state funeral will be broadcast at 11am at Docklands and Stratford campuses for those who wish to watch. At Docklands, this will take place in the Main Lecture Theatre (Library) and room EBG.06. At Stratford, this will be in room CC1.01.
