Alumnus achieves director of sports role

Haroun was recently back in the UK as a key member of the Sierra Leone delegation at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. 

Haroun  is a two-time Olympian, having competed as a sprinter in the 4x400m relay in the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games in Barcelona and Atlanta, USA. Haroun was also a silver medallist at the African Games in Cairo, Egypt, in 1991. He also competed in 4x100m relay events.  Haroun said,

I have very fond memories of my time at UEL and I am grateful for the support from the staff in the applied sport and exercise sciences department, who helped support me towards my current role as director of sports."

Dr Andy Galbraith, associate professor of exercise physiology, said, "It is fantastic to see Haroun progressing so well, we are looking forward to exploring opportunities for future collaboration as part of the East London Global Sport Strategy."
