Summer school opens doors to teenagers

The University of East London Outreach and Access team has launched a packed programme for summer schools across three campuses.
The University is expecting more than 400 students to attend the three-day sessions, which started on 4 July, and will carry on throughout the month.
Carol Berry, partnership manager for Post-16s, said, "We're thrilled to host all these young students at the University of East London. We've lined up a range of activities that will challenge them and stretch their imaginations about what's possible.
"We hope they have a great experience on our campus and, when they're ready for the next step, make us first choice to pursue their degree and start their career journeys."
Sustainability, wellbeing and creativity are core themes running within our summer schools this year and students will be challenged to work to an industry-led brief with workshops and panels from our expert academics, outreach team, students and industry professionals.
The students, all aged 16-18, will explore exciting subject areas, such as smart cities, eco-entrepreneurship, music, wellbeing and biomechanics, all in the form of subject tasters.
The aim is to give the teenagers the skills, knowledge and practical experience to advance their transition to university as well as have a fun and informed experience on campus.
Alumnus and Radio 1Xtra DJ Reece Parkinson will be attending as an industry guest to talk about his career in media and broadcasting. He will feature as part of the School of Arts and Creative Industries offering, with each of the six academic Schools hosting students.
