National Student Survey success for Sports Journalism
08 August 2022
Sports Journalism at the University of East London has significantly exceeded the sector benchmark for overall satisfaction in the National Student Survey (NSS) 2022.
Sports Journalism sits within the University's School of Arts and Creative Industries (ACI).
The School has seen a positive increase across all areas in this year's NSS, with learning opportunities, academic support, teaching and learning community performing above the national average.
The NSS is a survey organised by the Office for Students taken by graduating students and aims to highlight students' views surrounding the quality of their education.
It is used by universities and colleges, as well as student unions, to drive improvements across multiple areas of students' academic experience.
It is also used by prospective students to help inform their decision on which university to choose and what to study.
Approximately 325,000 students from nearly 400 institutions took part in this year's survey.
Professor Rosemary Stott, ACI's head of media, said,
The NSS result for BA Sports Journalism is testament to the outstanding academic staff, who create an inclusive and nurturing environment in which every student can develop professionally and personally. The team is made up of working journalists and multimedia broadcasters, who can open doors to work experience for students and bring the subject alive."
She added: "We are seeing an increase in NSS scores in the media cluster as a whole and the recently published graduate outcomes survey for 2019/20 graduates shows that 89.5% are now working in the media industries. This is a result of us helping students develop a strong sense of purpose, making learning more collaborative and embedding live projects with industry clients and guest speakers. Students don't just learn to analyse media, they make it!"
