Our Student Village at the Docklands Campus is modern, secure and convenient, and a great way of making new friends. If you prefer to live off-campus, we can provide help and advice too.
Our Docklands campus provides plenty of options to eat, drink or just relax over a coffee. You’ll find Starbucks, Costa Coffee and the Baguette Co. as well as a large refectory, called ‘The Edge’, which serves a wide choice of different cuisines, include vegetarian and Halal.
There are two other cafes on campus: ‘Munch’, which is located at SportsDock, and ‘Origins’, which is at Knowledge Dock.
We offer an optional, value-for-money residential catering plan which will provide you with breakfast and dinner from Monday to Friday. You can choose to have breakfast at either the Edge, Munch or Starbucks at the Docklands campus or at our Stratford campus café, ‘The Green’. Dinner is served at the Edge.
Purchasing a meal plan comes with the extra benefit of either five, ten or twenty free days’ meals, depending on which option you choose. Payment options are usually available either by term or annually in advance. You can make a payment online to your rent account or in person at the Residential Services office. The Docklands campus is also home to our popular Underground Bar, which hosts a regular programme of entertainments events from music nights to quizzes.
If you prefer to cook your own food, shopping for groceries is easy and convenient. There’s an on-campus shop for essentials, while there are two superstores - Asda and Sainsbury’s - within walking distance of the Docklands campus.
Living in our Student Village you’ll enjoy fantastic transport links to our Stratford campus and central London.
A free, regular bus operates between the Docklands and Stratford campuses, with a bus stop directly outside the Student Village.
The Docklands campus is also served by Cyprus station, on the Docklands Light Railway. It’s located right at the campus entrance, giving you access to central London in less than half an hour. Stratford and Canary Wharf are both 20 minutes away. The campus is connected to the centre of the capital by 24-hour buses, so it couldn't be easier to get around.
Unfortunately, we’re unable to offer car parking at our Docklands campus, though we do reserve a limited amount of spaces for Blue Badge holders. If you hold a Blue Badge and require a parking space, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call us on +44 (0)20 8223 5409.
You’re welcome to bring a bicycle. There are secure bike sheds located around the campus and in the East Student Village. Please note that you’ll need to bring your own bicycle lock.
Additionally, each room contains a telephone from which you can ring Security directly at any time. The University has a dedicated emergency line if you need urgent assistance, and we work closely with the Metropolitan Police to ensure students feel safe and happy around campus.
UEL also operates a ‘silent witness’ scheme, so you can make an anonymous report of any incident that may have worried you.
There are numerous CCTV cameras positioned around the Student Village. Each one is active and monitored by our Security team in the UEL control room. There’s also a strict visitor policy in place, which means you can be safe in the knowledge that those in residences are either authorised visitors or fellow residents.
The University provides on-site laundry facilities in both the West and East villages.
The machines are cashless and are operated using a card which can be purchased from the vending machine located in our Residential Services office, Longbridge House. The card costs £2 to purchase and you will then need to buy a credit of £10 or £20.
The cards can be topped up online by selecting the University of East London.

Moving into halls
Tip: remember your allocated building, as keys are organised according to building.
Outside of Welcome Weekend, you are able to collect your keys from the Residential Services Office during normal working hours of 9am-5pm Monday through Friday.
Please be aware that before arriving you need to have accepted your accommodation offer and agreement, completed the e-induction and paid in full or have set-up a recurring card payment plan. Failure to complete all these steps before you arrive could result in a delay in issuing your keys.

You’ll need to check every item in your room and communal areas and record anything that is missing or damaged. We use the inventory list to record the condition of the room or property when you move in and compare to the condition of the room or property when we complete periodic inspections and check out inspections. You will be charged for anything that is then missing or damaged.
You need to complete this form online within seven days of your arrival to avoid being held responsible for any missing items or damage when you move out.
You will need to attend our welcome talks in the first few weeks of term. These are compulsory for new students and will provide you with lots of useful information regarding your stay in halls.
If you have any issues or concerns regarding your accommodation, don’t hesitate to speak to a member of the Residential Services team, who are responsible for the day-to-day running of your accommodation.
Payment is usually made by BACS and will be refunded via the original method of payment.
You will be required to give no less than four weeks’ notice to leave your accommodation and you will be liable for the rent during your notice period.
If you wish to move out of halls but are continuing your studies at UEL, you are liable for the rent until the end of the academic year or until a replacement student can be found.
